Patrons Book Coming!
This weekend was the last episode of #GetYourNewsOnWithRon in its current format. The show is not going away, but it is going to exist strictly as a livestream as opposed to the flagship show it had become in recent years. I’m doing this largely to make room for a new podcast project called ‘1000’. More on that later, but for now I’ll just say this: 1000 will be different than the lane I’ve been occupying in the podcasting space thus far, but it will also be better than anything I’ve ever done in the podcasting world, that’s a promise.
Additionally, with a pilot/short film out in the ethers and a feature film in the editing stages, this change is also part of a larger deviation from “comedian and mostly podcaster Ron” to “comedian, writer/filmmaker and still-some-but-not-near-as-exclusively-podcaster Ron”.
I’ve been asked on more than one occasion what made me want to make this change. Why deviate from what folks know ya as? Truth is, there’s way more to it than I just wanted to make a movie. It goes into many other areas: The state of the online left (or whatever you want to call it), the YouTuber subculture, a couple Tweets that really resonated with me some from folks I don’t normally agree with, and, quite simply, what one values most in life.
I’ve decided I want to tell the full story about why I chose to close one chapter and open another, and give all the nitty-gritty on what went into this transformation. However, to properly tell such a story would require more than just a Substack post. So, I thought, “how about a book?” Here’s the deal though, such a book would be a pretty niche thing, it’d be more like a Manifesto of sorts and it’s tough to anticipate how long such a thing would be. Plus, traditional publishing is a pretty heavy lift, I don’t think I’d want to through such a project for such a specific and time-stamped thing. Hence, I decided to split the difference: An e-book released via Patreon one post at a time. Other creators have done Patron-exclusive books before and I’ve done plenty of Patron-exclusive blogs before, so, seems the perfect platform.
